Ground heat exchanger

Is the fluid used in the ground heat exchanger harmful to the environment or to the health?

We only use environmentally friendly and harmless frost protection concentrates based on glycols.

What size and characteristics are required for the ground heat exchanger?

The geothermal ground heat exchanger is designed specifically for each project; the size is calculated depending on the nature of the soil and the groundwater level (soil extraction capacity). As a rule of thumb, an average of 10-20m² per KW can be assumed. The ground heat exchanger can be placed on two levels below the building.

Does the geothermal ground heat exchanger require approval?

Usually not. The competent authority regarding underground water must be informed with the building permit.

What pressure can the register mats underneath the building withstand?

The pipes have been tested with a pressure of 1,000 kN / m² (approx. 102 tons / m²).

What if the ground heat exchanger lays in the groundwater?

If the ground heat exchanger is located in the groundwater, no excess energy can be stored in. The temperatures in the ground heat exchanger are then not that high, but the groundwater provides free energy with very good extraction rates.

Should the foundation have to have a certain quality for the ground heat exchanger?

Not really, there are the filling materials recommended by us, but the foundation is always determined by the structural engineer.

Can the base plate be damaged if I heat / cool the ground below?

In the temperature range where we operate the geothermal ground source storage (5 to 25 ° C), damage to the base plate is impossible.

Is the ground heat exchanger part of the building envelope?

The ground heat exchanger under the insulated floor slab is outside the building envelope.

Can I install the geothermal mats in the underground car park?

Yes, we have had very good experiences with installing the ground heat exchanger in the underground car park's basement slab. The entire storage mass of the floor slab (concrete) can be included here.


Solar collectors

How big does the solar system have to be?

It depends on the nature of the floor, but also whether the system should cool and of course on the hot water and heating requirements.

The rule of thumb for the size of the solar system is between 1-2m² collector area per kW.

Can I use any collector (flat / tube)?

We only use flat-plate collectors for charging with ground brine, as these have ideal properties at low collector temperatures.

The collectors must be suitable for low temperatures, as energy at only 5 ° C is still drawn from the collectors.

Is the ground source storage harmful to the environment / health?

We only use environmentally friendly and harmless antifreeze concentrates based on glycols.

Can PVT collectors be integrated?

PVT (hybrid) collectors can also be used in the system. Thus good results are achieved in terms of loading the ground heat exchanger and module cooling (higher electricity yield). 


System efficiency guarantee

What does system efficiency guarantee mean?

We guarantee that the required temperature in the ground heat exchanger is maintained and that the percentage of renewable energy is achived according to the dynamic building simulation. We also guarantee the heat pump's performance factor (+/- 15%) calculated by us after the first two years of operation (building drying), for a period of 15 years.

What is the dynamic system simulation for?

The dynamic simulation simulates the building's heating and cooling energy demand during several years. All influences on consumption / user behaviour are included. The simulation allows important information for system design to be processed in advance, which supports efficient operation. In addition, the investor has the option of receiving an efficiency guarantee for his system and the annual performance factor (JAZ / EER) from BES.



Regulation and BMS

In which bus systems can your control be integrated?

There is a MOD-BUS interface to the on-site building management system (BMS). This means that third-party products could be integrated into our system and our control system could be connected to a higher-level BMS.

What about remote monitoring?

Our e-TALK 4.0 controller includes the option of remote monitoring via the Internet as standard. Error messages can be forwarded at any time after setup. When commissioning, there is the option of system optimizing. In recent years, the demand for remote monitoring and optimization has increased significantly.

Can system failures be recognized at an early stage?

Yes, the error messages are immediately passed on to the responsible person (e.g. customer service).Often the users have not even noticed that there is a fault in the system. This is possible via the remote control of the e-TALK 4.0 controller. An internet connection must be available for the integration and the system must of course be set up for the user.

Roomcontrol: What are the advantages of automatic hydraulic balancing and what additional costs do I have to expect?

Precise hydraulic balancing in buildings ensures even heat distribution in all rooms. The room control takes care of this automatically, dynamically and continuously and thus replaces the prescribed manual comparison of the circles. With its compact design, it offers the optimal solution for high energy saving potential and maximum energy efficiency. Thanks to hydraulic balancing even in partial load operation, the control loops are kept at the specified value. This makes hydraulic balancing superfluous and ensures maximum energy efficiency. The additional costs compared to a conventional individual room control with fixed volume flows (at full load) on the distributor are very low over the years of operation. The greatest potential for savings lies in operation in the partial load range. So you shouldn't speak of additional costs, but of more efficiency / economy thanks to room control.


THe BES System

Can your system also be combined with passive cooling?

Of course, there is the option of using the ground heat exchanger for passive cooling.

How high are the savings compared to conventional systems?

It depends on the system and its configuration. Compared to conventional systems, such as district heating, higher investments cost are offset by the savings in operation costs.

What are the additional costs needed for cooling?

The additional effort is manageable. You need a heat pump with active cooling, pipes must be insulated against diffusion, a cold buffer and room thermostats for heating and cooling.

Does the BES system also work with conventional underfloor heating?

Yes, our systems also work with conventional underfloor heating. With the same design, however, the register mats require an average of 3-4 Kelvin less heating medium temperature in order to achieve the required output per square meter. This demonstrably lowers heating costs and protects the environment.


Heating and cooling register

Why do register mats not produce such high surface temperatures?

Due to the tight, fixed pipe spacing and the small pipe cross-sections, the register mats have a much larger specific surface and higher heat flow density than conventional underfloor heating systems. Therefore, the BES systems result in ever lower heating medium temperatures (3-4K) on average and, due to the even distribution, also lower surface temperatures in the system.

What are the advantages of register mats over conventional underfloor heating?

Due to the favorable KvS values, not only 10-12m² per heating circuit, but 20-25m² can be laid with the BES system. This makes the distributor (fewer heating circuits) and the distributor box smaller, fewer actuators are required and savings are made in terms of acquisition, assembly and operation. Due to the high transmission performance, our mats are of course also very suitable for floor / wall cooling / temperature control and the flow temperatures can usually be 3-4 ° K (when heating) lower than with conventional systems - that saves a lot of energy and money!

The tension-free laying of the registers, the easy combinability with wall registers, the low surface temperatures (usually always below 28 ° C) and the resulting, healthy, comfortable climate. The register mats are the first choice for underfloor heating / cooling / temperature control.
